The most important treatment is the early surgical removal. The melanoma is completely excised with follow up analyses of the fine cell tissue. The level of invasion into the skin is measured in 100^th of mm. If the level of invasion is less than 2 mm the follow up surgery is done with 1 cm safety distance. With a level of invasion of more than 2 mm the follow up surgery is done with 2 cm safety distance.
