Types of Skin Cancer

The term ‘skin cancer’ covers a multitude of different cancer illnesses that develop or are visible on the skin. The most feared is the malignant melanoma (black skin cancer). The melanoma affects all ages and is responsible for the most deaths amongst all the types of skin cancer. Much more common are the non-melanoma skin cancer (basal cell and squamous cell cancer). The non-melanoma skin cancer or also epidermal skin cancer includes the basal cell carcinoma and the squamous cell carcinoma and their precancerous stages. It affects especially older people. In addition there are other, partly very rare types of skin cancer. Other malign changes in the skin can show metastasis of cancer illnesses of inner organs. That is how a change in the skin can lead to the diagnosis of a previously unknown metastasizing cancer illness.
